2016 University of Adelaide Honors Scholarship recipient
In 2016 Samantha won the Club Award to assist her with her research to complete her Honours Thesis for her Bachelor of Psychological Science – Neuropsychology. Samantha tutored through her first degree and then progress into lecturing roles and went on to complete her Doctor of Psychology at the University of Adelaide.
Between 2016 and 2019 Samantha supported many Psychology Honours students to apply for our Zonta University of Adelaide Scholarship.
She now has a PhD in Psychology and is Lecturer in Psychology at University of Adelaide and has built her career as an educator and researcher in higher education. She has won awards in 2020 and 2023 for her excellence in teaching and in 2023 for a Research Award.
She is a Senior Fellow of the HEA (Higher Education Academy). Dr Newell is emerging as a leading voice in Generative AI in Higher Education with publications co-authored with international AI scholars.
Dr Newell is interested in improving practice in the field of psychology education. She has studied the ways to build rapport in the online learning environment. Her recent peer-reviewed publications showcased her dedication to deepening the understanding of the relationship between AI and academic integrity.
